Originating from a lineage that celebrates the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of Charles Tennant, our founder’s seventh great-grandfather, the Saint Rollox name is more than just a moniker; it’s a testament to a family’s enduring legacy of transformation and growth.

Charles Tennant, an industrious figure of the 18th and 19th centuries, was not just a businessman but a visionary who revolutionised the chemical industry with his discovery and patenting of bleaching powder. This innovation laid the foundation for the establishment of the St. Rollox chemical works on the banks of the Monkland Canal, just north of Glasgow, an area named after a corruption of St. Roch’s Loch, which itself was tied to the legacy of a French holy man, St. Roch. Under Charles Tennant’s stewardship, the St. Rollox plant flourished, becoming the largest of its kind in the world during the 1830s and 1840s.
