On iPhone, the Safari cache stores temporary files that speed up browsing on the Internet. Every now and then, a website might stop working for you and clearing the cache will fix it.

Why does this help? To vastly oversimplify things, sometimes there’s a difference between the version of the website stored in your cache compared to the version that you’re downloading from the Internet. This conflict can lead to unexpected behaviour. Clearing the cache forces the latest version of files to be downloaded from the website.

To clear the Safari cache on iPhone without losing your browsing history:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Scroll down to Safari and tap it
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Advanced
  4. Tap Website Data
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Remove All Website Data
  6. Tap Remove Now
